0 to 153 Ranked Keywords: How Greenspine Safety Won a Niche Canadian Market

Client Overview

Client: GreenSpine Safety Solutions (greenspinesafety.com)
Industry: Workplace health and safety consulting

GreenSpine Safety Solutions is a specialized workplace health and safety consultancy based in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island. The company supports businesses across British Columbia, Alberta and Western Canada with practical safety systems, regulatory compliance, COR audits, consulting and workplace safety training.

Unlike e-commerce serving thousands of potential product searches, GreenSpine operates within a narrow B2B market. Search volumes for terms such as safety consultant, COR auditor and workplace health consultant are considerably smaller, but each qualified lead can represent a valuable consulting, audit or training engagement.

The objective was therefore not to generate large volumes of general website traffic. It was to establish GreenSpine as a highly visible safety authority and generate a reliable flow of relevant business enquiries.

The Challenge: Starting With Almost No Organic Search Presence

The website ranked for no measurable organic keywords in the initial benchmark data, organic traffic was close to zero, and the Google Business Profile was receiving fewer than ten interactions per month. GreenSpine also had only 24 known backlinks and limited visibility across searches outside its immediate brand name.

The business had strong real-world expertise, but that expertise had not yet been translated into a search-friendly website structure.

The key challenges included:

  • No established organic traffic channel

  • No meaningful non-branded keyword visibility

  • Limited service and location page coverage

  • Weak internal linking and topical organization

  • Minimal local search visibility outside the immediate business location

  • Insufficient content addressing specific safety and compliance questions

  • A highly specialized audience with limited overall search volume

GreenSpine did not need generic traffic. It needed visibility among business owners, operations managers, construction companies and employers actively looking for safety support.

The SEO Approach: Building Authority in a Specialized B2B Market

The strategy combined technical SEO, content development, local search optimization and a complete restructuring of the website’s organic search presence.

Rather than chasing broad, high-volume terms, the work focused on building relevance across tightly connected services, industries, compliance requirements and geographic markets.

Website Restructuring and Service-Page Optimization

The website architecture was reorganized around GreenSpine’s primary offerings, including health and safety consulting, COR audits, fractional safety support, safety documentation and workplace training.

Each important service was given a clearer search purpose, stronger headings, more complete supporting content and improved calls to action. Metadata, internal links and page relationships were also refined so search engines could better understand how GreenSpine’s services fit together.

This reflects the same structured approach used in our SEO for B2B and professional service businesses, where authority and qualified enquiries matter more than raw traffic volume.

Local SEO and Geographic Expansion

Local optimization was a central part of the strategy because many businesses search for safety consultants within a specific city or service region.

GreenSpine’s regional relevance was strengthened across the Cowichan Valley, Nanaimo, Greater Victoria, Vancouver and other parts of British Columbia. The Google Business Profile was optimized alongside the website so that organic pages and local map visibility supported each other.

This included service alignment, geographic landing pages, local content, profile improvements and ongoing measurement through local search grids. The work followed the same principles used within our broader local SEO services and Vancouver Island SEO strategies.

Topical Content and Long-Tail Search Visibility

A content strategy was developed around the actual questions and compliance problems faced by employers.

Instead of publishing generic safety articles, GreenSpine began building resources around topics such as hazard assessments, field-level hazard assessments, safety manuals, workplace inspections, COR preparation, training requirements and ground disturbance.

This created multiple ways for prospective clients to discover the business before they were ready to contact a consultant. It also helped GreenSpine demonstrate real subject-matter expertise across a technically complex industry.

The content was structured for both traditional search results and emerging AI-led discovery, supported by the principles used in our GEO and AI search optimization services.

Technical SEO and Authority Development

Technical improvements were completed throughout the site to strengthen crawlability, indexation and performance.

The work included resolving broken links, improving page relationships, optimizing titles and descriptions, adding structured data, strengthening internal linking and ensuring important pages could be discovered efficiently.

Authority signals also increased over time. GreenSpine’s backlink count grew from 24 to 85, an increase of approximately 254%. These links helped reinforce the company’s relevance and credibility without relying on high-volume or low-quality link acquisition.

The Results: Sustainable Growth Across Search, Maps and Leads

Organic Sessions Increased by More Than 200%

Organic search grew from virtually no measurable traffic at the beginning of the engagement to 681 organic sessions during the latest reporting period.

Compared with the previous period shown in Google Analytics, this represented a 216.74% increase in organic sessions.

Engaged organic sessions grew from 140 to 424, an increase of 202.86%. This indicates that growth was not limited to additional visits: substantially more people were actively engaging with GreenSpine’s website and services.

Search Visibility Reached 40,800 Impressions

Google Search Console recorded approximately 40,800 organic impressions and 437 clicks over the latest 12-month period.

The visibility chart shows a clear upward trend beginning in late 2025 and accelerating through 2026. GreenSpine progressed from occasional branded visibility to regular appearances for consulting, hazard, training and compliance-related searches.

Ranking Keywords Grew From Zero to 153

GreenSpine went from no measurable ranking keywords in November 2025 to 153 ranking keywords by August 2026.

This included:

  • 3 keywords ranking in positions 1–5

  • 15 keywords ranking in positions 6–10

  • 18 keywords ranking in positions 11–20

  • 69 keywords ranking in positions 21–50

  • 48 keywords ranking in positions 51–100

The large group of keywords currently ranking between positions 11 and 50 creates a strong pipeline for continued growth as individual pages gain authority.

Strong Local Map-Pack Visibility

GreenSpine previously averaged close to positions nine and ten across many target local searches.

The latest local search grids show:

  • 1.0 average map rank for “health and safety consultant Cobble Hill”

  • 1.5 average map rank for “workplace health consultant”

  • 1.6 average map rank for “safety consultant”

  • 2.2 average map rank for “health and safety consultant”

  • 3.4 average map rank for “occupational safety and health”

Several grids now show GreenSpine ranking in the top three across most of the target service area, with extensive first-position visibility close to Cobble Hill and the surrounding Cowichan region.

Google Business Profile Interactions Increased

Monthly Google Business Profile interactions increased from fewer than ten in November to a peak of 66 interactions in May 2026.

Activity has since stabilized at approximately 50 interactions per month, creating a much stronger and more predictable source of calls, website visits and prospective customer actions.

Business Impact

The most important outcome is not a traffic percentage or keyword count. It is that GreenSpine now receives a steady flow of enquiries every week.

Overall lead volume has increased by approximately 25%, giving the business a more dependable acquisition channel and reducing its reliance on referrals alone.

These results should be understood in the context of the industry. A specialized safety consultancy will not generate the same traffic volume as an online retailer with thousands of products and consumer searches. However, it does not need to.

For GreenSpine, one qualified enquiry can lead to an audit, consulting engagement, safety program or long-term corporate relationship. The SEO strategy was therefore built around relevance, geographic reach and commercial intent rather than inflated traffic numbers.

Summary

This case study demonstrates what sustainable SEO growth looks like in a highly specialized B2B industry.

Beginning with almost no organic traffic or keyword presence, GreenSpine developed visibility across 153 keywords, increased organic sessions by more than 200%, expanded its backlink profile from 24 to 85 links and achieved top-three local visibility across several important service searches.

Most importantly, improved search visibility translated into a steady weekly flow of qualified leads and an estimated 25% increase in enquiries.

The results were created through consistent execution: stronger website architecture, specialized content, technical SEO, local optimization and clearer alignment between what GreenSpine offers and what employers search for.

Businesses in complex or niche industries do not need enormous traffic numbers to make SEO profitable. They need to be visible for the right services, in the right locations, when a qualified customer needs help.
